Everything that matters, in one place. For you today, for your loved ones tomorrow.
The Life Vault is your personal, encrypted binder that stays on your computer. Papers, accounts, contracts, access, wishes: everything in one place, so you can run your paperwork without searching everywhere. And when the day comes, your loved ones find it all there.

The pictures and the video on this page show the example vault that comes with LEGATEM. People and data are fictional.
A vault that lives with you
- 1
You gather
Papers, accounts, contracts, access, wishes: you fill in the Vault theme by theme, at your own pace, and attach your documents.
- 2
You use it
An IBAN, an insurance policy, a contract to cancel: everything is found in seconds. The Vault grows with you over the years.
- 3
Everything stays protected
The vault is an encrypted file on your computer. It never connects to the internet, and no one but you can open it. Not even us.
- 4
You pass it on
Your key is split into pieces entrusted to people you trust. When the day comes, they bring them together and find everything, in order.
The Vault in 40 seconds
A tour of the example vault: a theme, an entry, your loved ones, the key in pieces, the document for your loved ones.

Who to notify, and who is who
Your family, drawn simply. When the day comes, no one wonders who to call or how each person is related.

One theme at a time
Everything has its place. You attach your documents, scans and photos, and come back whenever you like.
A document for your loved ones
The Vault produces a complete document to print, sign and deposit with your notary or in a bank safe-deposit box. Readable anywhere, twenty years from now too.

Your paperwork, finally in one place
The Vault doesn't wait for the day to come. It is your everyday reference: what you used to look for in ten places is now in one.

Entirely your own
Your vault never leaves your computer.
This is what sets LEGATEM apart. Most digital vaults keep your data on their servers; yours stays at home, encrypted, under your control alone.
100% offline
The Vault never connects to the internet: it is technically prevented from doing so. No account to create, no data sent. Turn off the wifi: it still works.
Encrypted end to end
All content is encrypted with the standard used by banks and governments. Without the key, the file is unreadable.AES-256-GCM
A hardened password
Every opening attempt is deliberately slow and costly to compute, which discourages trying passwords one after another.Argon2id
Each document on its own
Attachments are encrypted one by one, each with its own key.
Nothing with us
LEGATEM holds neither your vault, nor your password, nor the pieces of your key. We could not open it, even if asked to.
Independent of LEGATEM
The file contains everything it needs to open. Even if LEGATEM disappeared, your vault would still open.
| Online digital vault | LEGATEM | |
|---|---|---|
| Where your data is | On the provider's servers | On your computer |
| Online account | Required | None |
| If the company stops | Access depends on the service | Your vault still opens |
The most common situation among online digital vaults; it varies from one service to another.
No one can open it alone
Your password is the key to the vault. LEGATEM splits it into pieces, which you give to people you trust. You choose how many pieces to create, up to ten, and how many will be needed to open it.
- One piece alone reveals nothing.
- Losing a piece does not prevent opening, as long as enough remain.
- If you change your password, you create new pieces.
Each piece has its keeper
You note who you gave each piece to. When the day comes, your loved ones open the file, choose “Open with the pieces of the key” and enter them.

For one person, or for a couple
LEGATEM Solo
One vault, one key. Everything that matters in a single file, at home.
- The twelve themes, and your own
- The key in pieces, entrusted to your loved ones
- The document for your loved ones, to print
LEGATEM Duo
Two personal vaults, linked by a shared part: “Our home”.
- Each keeps their personal papers
- What you share is filled in only once
- If you separate, each leaves with their own Solo vault, included
- French and English, more languages to come
- For computers, Windows or Mac
- 30-day money-back guarantee
- Card and TWINT
Your vault for two
You start together, or bring together two Solo vaults already filled in: nothing has to be redone. Each has their own password and space; “Our home” belongs to both.

Let me know when it's out
Solo and Duo are being finalised. Leave your address: we will write to you once, on release day.
Today, what matters is scattered
For you — searching everywhere
Accounts, contracts, insurance, digital access: each has its own portal, binder or drawer. Finding information takes time, and no one has the full map.
For your loved ones — piecing it all together
When the day comes, they must find every account and every contract, often without knowing where to start, and handle dozens of formalities when they have the least strength for it.
When the day comes, someone takes care of everything
After a death, the family inherits dozens of formalities, just when it has the least strength for them. With the Support, someone from LEGATEM takes them on in the family's place.
How it works
Your LEGATEM referent acts as an administrative agent. Neither notary nor lawyer, they work alongside them. The family gives them a mandate; they carry out the formalities and keep the family informed. No forms to fill in, no offices to chase.
What we take on
- Official formalities
- Banks
- Pension funds
- Insurers
- Subscriptions and cancellations
- Landlord or agency
- Digital life
- Coordination with the notary
The family gives us a mandate.

If your loved one had a Vault, the referent finds in it, with the pieces gathered by the family, the list of accounts, contracts and people to notify. The Support remains open to every family, with or without a Vault.
This service is opening gradually in French-speaking Switzerland. Let's talk about your situation, with no commitment.

What people ask us
In practice, what is the Vault?
A single file, protected by your password, that you open in your computer's browser. Inside, twelve prepared themes, plus any you add, where you keep what matters: where the papers are, which accounts and contracts exist, who to notify, what you wish. You can attach documents. It is neither a website nor an online service: the file is yours, at home.
Is the Vault only for later?
No. It is first your everyday reference: your numbers, contracts and important documents, found in seconds. Being useful to your loved ones when the day comes follows from that.
Where is my data kept?
In that file, on your computer. Nothing is sent, to LEGATEM or anywhere else. You choose where to keep the file and its copies: your computer, a USB stick, an external drive.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The Vault opens in your computer's browser, with no connection. Solo works in recent browsers, most comfortably with Chrome or Edge. Duo requires Chrome or Edge.
What does the update subscription include?
It gives access to new versions of the Vault. It is entirely optional: without it, your vault keeps working and opening, with no time limit.
What if I forget my password?
LEGATEM does not know it and cannot recover it. The pieces you gave to your loved ones are what let you rebuild the key and reopen the vault.
Does the Vault replace a will?
No. The Vault gathers your information and says where your documents are, including your will. It replaces neither a will nor a notary's advice.
Which languages is the Vault available in?
French and English today. It was designed from the start for other languages, which will come gradually.
I have a Solo vault. Can I move to Duo later?
Yes. A Solo vault becomes, as it is, your personal vault inside Duo: same password, same pieces, nothing to re-enter.
